You have been asked to update the price list for the advertising boards on the main pitch and you do not know whether CHF 400 per season is too much or too little. There is no official benchmark for perimeter advertising costs in Swiss amateur football: every club sets its own prices and they are rarely published. This article sets out the range we see in club projects and in publicly available price lists, explains the six factors behind it and shows how to position the sponsor slot on the LED scoreboard relative to a board. All figures are guide values for your own calculation, not tariffs.
Perimeter advertising costs in Switzerland: the range by format
| Format | Price per season | Production | Typical term |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 x 0.75 m | CHF 300 to 400 | usually paid by the sponsor | 1 to 2 seasons |
| 3 x 0.75 m (standard) | CHF 350 to 500 | usually paid by the sponsor | 1 to 3 seasons |
| 4 x 0.95 m | CHF 500 to 650 | sometimes credited in the first year | 3 to 5 seasons |
| Charged per running metre | CHF 105 to 120 per running metre and year | approx. CHF 200 per running metre one-off, plus around CHF 35 for the artwork | open |
| Double board or two visible sides | 1.5 to 2 times the single-sided price | as single-sided | as single-sided |
What follows from this:
- The standard 3 x 0.75 m board sits at CHF 300 to 650 per season in Swiss amateur football. The most common figure is CHF 400 to 450.
- Production is almost never included. For a 3 m board, CHF 400 to 600 for printing and installation is realistic, depending on material (aluminium composite, tarpaulin, film) and print shop. Clubs charging per running metre budget around CHF 200 per running metre as a one-off.
- Double boards or boards with two visible sides cost 1.5 to 2 times as much.
- VAT is rarely stated separately. Most amateur clubs quote gross prices or are not liable for VAT at all (more on that below).
What determines the price of an advertising board
Six factors explain almost every deviation within the range:
- League and attendance. A home match in the 2. Liga interregional typically draws a few hundred spectators, in the 5. Liga often fewer than 100.
- Position. Boards opposite the main stand or by the clubhouse are worth more than the board behind the goal on the woodland side. A double-sided board that also faces the car park or the road justifies a premium of around 50 %.
- Format. 3 x 0.75 m or 2.5 x 0.8 m are standard. Pricing per running metre is transparent when sponsors want different lengths.
- Term. Multi-year contracts lower the annual price. A common pattern is a first year that includes production and a lower rate for the following period, tied to a minimum term of three to five years.
- Production and installation. Anyone who includes production should ask for a term of at least three years, otherwise the club loses money.
- Exclusivity per sector. Only one garage, only one bank at the ground: as a rule of thumb, that justifies a surcharge of 20 to 50 %.
In Germany: perimeter advertising prices by Kreisliga and Verbandsliga
The guide by findasponsor.de (as of August 2026) quotes, for a 3 x 1 m board per season, EUR 200 to 500 in the Kreisliga, EUR 400 to 1,000 in the Bezirksliga, EUR 800 to 2,500 in the Landesliga and Verbandsliga; producing a PVC or mesh board costs EUR 80 to 200. Roughly speaking, the Kreisliga corresponds to the Swiss 4. and 5. Liga, the Verbandsliga to the 2. Liga interregional.
Board, kit, match ball: package comparison within the club
The other advertising products of the same clubs for comparison:
| Advertising product | Price range (Swiss amateur football) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Board 3 m | CHF 300 to 650 per season | see table above |
| Kit or shirt sponsorship | CHF 1,300 to 3,000 per season | depending on whether printing is included and how many seasons the kit is worn |
| Match ball sponsorship | CHF 150 to 250 per match | roughly CHF 1,700 to 2,700 per season over 11 home matches |
| Main sponsor package | CHF 2,000 per year and more | kit plus board plus adverts, usually with a minimum term of three years |
The kit is there at every match, away games and photos included. The board only at home matches. The board therefore belongs in the package as the entry level (Bronze), kit plus board as Silver or Gold. A fully worked-out package structure with prices is in our template for sponsorship packages.
Quantifying reach: visual contacts per season
A local business rightly asks what it gets for CHF 450. The honest answer is a calculation:
Visual contacts = spectators per home match x home matches per season (plus livestream viewers)
Example 3. Liga: 250 spectators x 13 home matches = 3,250 visual contacts per season from the first team alone; with youth and second-team matches on the same pitch it quickly reaches 8,000 to 12,000. At CHF 450 per season that is 4 to 14 centimes per visual contact. This figure belongs on every price list.
Placing the sponsor slot on the LED scoreboard
Anyone who replaces the digit board with an LED screen gains a new advertising space: the advertising area below the score with rotating sponsor logos, plus half-time videos and goal animations.
| Criterion | Static board | Slot on the LED scoreboard |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | permanent, but at the edge | in the line of sight, because everyone looks at the score |
| Viewing time per match | 90 minutes passive | e.g. 10 sponsors in rotation at 10 seconds each: around 9 minutes of active presence per sponsor, plus half-time and goal animation |
| Production | CHF 400 to 600 printing and installation | logo as a file, no material costs |
| Changes | print a new board | swap the logo, immediately |
| Away visibility | none | visible in the livestream |
Our recommendation: The LED slot costs 1.5 to 2 times a standard board, so with a board at CHF 400 around CHF 600 to 800 per season, as an addition, not a replacement. Goal animation and half-time video are exclusive positions with a surcharge. This way a 3 x 2 m scoreboard with 8 to 12 sponsor slots can refinance its purchase within a few seasons; the worked example on financing the scoreboard through sponsors shows this in detail, and the purchase costs are in the article How much does an LED scoreboard cost in 2026?.
Proof is what matters: anyone who records which logo ran how often and for how long per match can demonstrate delivery at the end of the season. How to set up the advertising area in LemonScore is described in the documentation on advertising banners; the article on digital advertising spaces at the side of the pitch adds the sponsor's perspective.
Creating your own price list in 5 steps
- Count the inventory. Board positions by premium (stand, clubhouse, entrance) and standard, plus kit, match ball, match programme, scoreboard slots.
- Choose a price range. Take the range from the table above as a basis and position yourself by league and attendance; for the 3. Liga, CHF 400 to 500 is a common starting point.
- Build packages. Bronze (board), Silver (board, LED slot, match ball), Gold (kit, board, LED slot, half-time video). No more than three or four tiers.
- Set term and discounts. One season with tacit renewal, e.g. 10 % discount for three years.
- Define the proof. Photo of the installed board, display log from the scoreboard, visual contact calculation. This belongs in the contract.
Template for the price list:
| Item | Format | Price per season | Production | Term | Exclusivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Board standard | 3 x 0.75 m | CHF 400 | plus approx. CHF 450 one-off | 1 season | no |
| Board premium (stand) | 3 x 0.75 m | CHF 550 | plus approx. CHF 450 one-off | 1 season | no |
| LED slot scoreboard | logo in rotation | CHF 700 | none | 1 season | sector on request (+30 %) |
| Goal animation | logo at every home goal | CHF 1,200 | none | 1 season | yes, 1 sponsor |
| Kit first team | chest | CHF 2,500 | incl. printing | 2 seasons | yes |
| Match ball sponsorship | announcer mention | CHF 200 per match | none | 1 match | no |
Common mistakes in perimeter advertising
- Underpricing. CHF 200 for a board on the main pitch of a 2. Liga team is a gift; compare with the range above.
- Production not priced in. Anyone who sells the board for CHF 350 including printing earns nothing in the first year.
- No exclusivity and no provision for promotion or relegation. Two driving schools side by side will both decline to renew; and after promotion the price should be open to renegotiation.
- No follow-up. A thank-you letter with a photo and the visual contact figure increases the renewal rate; more on this in the article finding sponsors for your football club.
Tax note: sponsorship is not a donation
From a VAT perspective, perimeter advertising is an advertising service with consideration, so in principle taxable; a donation without consideration is not. Many amateur clubs are nevertheless not liable for VAT: under the Swiss VAT Act, non-profit sports clubs run by volunteers only become compulsorily liable from CHF 250,000 of taxable turnover per year (as of 2026, Swiss Federal Tax Administration, ESTV). Those above that threshold must show VAT on sponsorship services and mark it on the price list. This is not legal advice: ask your accountant or the ESTV.
Frequently asked questions about perimeter advertising costs
How much does a board at a football club cost per year?
In Swiss amateur football, CHF 300 to 650 per season for a board of around 3 x 0.75 m, plus a one-off CHF 400 to 600 for printing and installation. Higher prices are possible in higher leagues and for premium positions.
Who pays for the production of the advertising board?
Usually the sponsor. Three variants are common: the sponsor covers printing and installation in full, the club credits the production cost against the first year's rent, or the two split it in half. Anyone who includes it should ask for a minimum term of three years.
Is the slot on the LED scoreboard more expensive than a board?
It should be: 1.5 to 2 times the board price is realistic, because the advertising area below the score is in the direct line of sight, there are no production costs, and the display is also visible in the livestream.
Conclusion
The board remains the basic product of every club price list: CHF 300 to 650 per season plus production is the range in Swiss amateur football. You increase the value per sponsor not with more boards but with spaces in the line of sight; the sponsor slot on the digital scoreboard costs not a single franc in production. What advertising on the scoreboard looks like in practice is shown on the page advertising on the scoreboard. The longer-term perspective comes from the whitepaper on the future of club sponsoring.
