The scoreboard for football clubs that pays for itself through sponsors

LemonScore turns an LED wall on the sideline into a score display with advertising slots your club sells itself. Developed in Switzerland, controlled from a phone.

8 sponsor slots at CHF 900 per season: an LED wall costing CHF 14'000 is paid off after the third season. Run your own numbers

Demo for Windows and macOS: 15 minutes per run, restart as often as you like.

A score display with no room for sponsors: does this sound familiar?

Three sentences we hear again and again from committee members, match operations managers and sponsorship leads.

“We still have the old digit display.”

Or the chalkboard at the clubhouse. Score and time are there, nothing else. There is no room for sponsors and no reason for spectators to look.

“Our sponsors want more visibility.”

The pitch-side boards have been the same for years. Companies ask for something that stands out: moving, bright and visible at the moment of a goal.

“We have no budget for an LED wall.”

A 3 x 2 m LED wall costs around CHF 12'000 to 15'000 all-in. The club account cannot cover that, so the project stays in the drawer.

How the scoreboard works with LemonScore

Three steps from download to the first sponsor contract. No programming, no special console.

  1. Laptop running the LemonScore software in the speaker booth with the pitch in the background

    Download the software

Install LemonScore on a Windows or Mac laptop and start with the demo. Club logo, teams and colours are set up in minutes.

  2. LED scoreboard on the sideline of a club ground showing the score and match clock

    Connect the LED wall

Via HDMI to the LED processor of the wall. LemonScore additionally drives a Novastar controller directly, for brightness for example. The score runs full screen.

  3. Scoreboard layout with score, match clock and rotating sponsor banners along the bottom edge

    Sell sponsor slots

Upload logos, set the rotation, build the half-time playlist. Every slot is a separate offer: first to your existing pitch-side sponsors as an add-on, then to new companies.

What an LED wall running LemonScore brings your club

New revenue every season

Rotating banners, goal animation with sponsor logo, match clock sponsor and half-time spots are individually sellable slots. As a guide, a slot on the scoreboard is worth 1.5 to 2 times a pitch-side board, which in lower amateur leagues means CHF 600 to 1'200 per season.

One volunteer is enough

The announcer or match operations manager runs the scoreboard from a phone or tablet. Advertising rotates automatically, the goal animation appears with every goal entered.

In the live stream too

The same software overlays the score and sponsors on your live stream via OBS: extra reach for your advertising partners.

Sponsor calculator: when is the scoreboard paid for?

Guide values for lower amateur leagues with 200 to 400 spectators. The default assumes 8 slots sold; adjust the figures to your club.

Digital above the boards: as a guide, a slot on the scoreboard is worth 1.5 to 2 times a static pitch-side board.

Result (guide value)

Revenue per season
CHF 7'200
After running costs: CHF 6'700
Payback
2.1 seasons
Paid off after season 3
Surplus after 5 seasons
CHF 19'500

All figures are guide values, not a guarantee. Logic: revenue = slots x price; payback = investment divided by revenue minus running costs.

The LemonScore licence is charged separately: advertising banners and playlists are part of the Professional plan, CHF 100 per month billed annually (CHF 1'200 per year), less than two slots sold.

Scoreboards at football clubs: what committees want to know before they start

We already have an LED wall.

Any LED wall that can be connected as a screen works, regardless of manufacturer. The demo shows you within 15 minutes whether it fits.

Nobody at our club can program.

Nobody has to. You pick a layout from ready-made templates, drag your logos in, and the rest is clicks.

Who operates it on match day?

One person with a phone or tablet is enough. Score, timer and animations run through the remote control, or optionally through a Stream Deck. The advertising rotates automatically.

What does the software cost?

For sponsor advertising you need the Professional plan: CHF 100 per month billed annually, so CHF 1'200 per year, bookable without an enquiry. That is less than two sponsor slots sold. Basic without advertising banners starts at CHF 40 per month. You can test for free beforehand, as often as you like.

Frequently asked questions about scoreboards for football clubs

How much does a scoreboard for a football club cost?

As a rule of thumb an LED wall costs CHF 2'000 to 2'500 per square metre all-in, so around CHF 12'000 to 15'000 for 3 x 2 m. The software licence is charged separately; the plans are on the pricing page.

How does a club finance the scoreboard through sponsors?

By selling the advertising slots on the scoreboard individually: rotating banners, goal animation, match clock sponsor and half-time spots. In our worked example with 12 slots sold, a club takes in CHF 11'800 per season; a 3 x 2 m LED wall costing CHF 14'000 is paid for after the second season. Depending on the canton, Swisslos Sportfonds (the Swiss lottery sports fund) contributes as well.

Does the scoreboard need Wi-Fi or internet?

No. LemonScore runs offline after a one-off activation. The phone remote control only needs a local network, for example a small router or the laptop's hotspot.

Does LemonScore work with our existing LED wall?

Yes. LemonScore runs on Windows and macOS and outputs the picture via HDMI to any LED wall. Novastar LED controllers are additionally driven directly.

How quickly is the scoreboard ready on match day?

Once set up, matchday preparation takes a few minutes: start the laptop, create the match, switch to full screen. FC Wohlen describes exactly that in its testimonial.
