Does the Swisslos Sportfonds contribute to an LED scoreboard?

Yes, that is documented. The Zurich equipment list names result display units explicitly, and Basel-Stadt lists a funded scoreboard project in its open data. How much you get depends on the canton and on the classification as equipment or facility.

Does the application have to be filed before buying?

For sports facilities, almost everywhere. For sports equipment, Zurich, Bern, Aargau, Thurgau and Zug also reimburse retrospectively, each with its own deadline. If in doubt, apply before ordering.

Which documents does the application need?

Usually a description of the project with its benefit for members and spectators, a detailed quote, a funding plan with your own contribution, a timeline, and the club's statutes, annual report and accounts.

Do you provide the quote for the application?

Yes. The written quote usually arrives within two working days and lists LED wall, installation, control unit and setup separately. Steelwork, foundation and permits are quoted separately by the installation partner after the site visit.

Are there other sources besides the sports fund?

Yes: municipal and local business funding, local and regional foundations, crowdfunding, and sponsors who buy their slot on the scoreboard in advance for several seasons.

How Swiss clubs pay for their LED scoreboard

In many cantons the Swisslos Sportfonds covers around 40 % of sports equipment, and the sponsor slots on the wall pay for the rest. Our written quote lists every item separately and goes with the application.

Equipment or facility decides the rate and the timing

Each canton classifies the scoreboard itself. Clarify the classification with the fund office by phone before ordering; if in doubt, apply before you buy.

As sports equipment: Usually around 40 %, and several cantons reimburse equipment retrospectively against receipts. Typically: mobile or bolted-on scoreboards.
As part of a facility: Lower rates but higher maximums. The application must be filed before construction starts almost everywhere. Typically: LED walls on a foundation with a mast and power supply.

Sponsors pay for the rest

The sports fund rarely covers the whole wall. The advertising slots on the scoreboard pay for the rest: rotating banners below the score, the goal animation with a sponsor logo, spots at half-time. Each slot is an offer of its own that the club sells itself.

CHF600–1'200

is what one advertising slot on the scoreboard brings in per season in the lower amateur leagues, as a guide value.

Four steps to an application

Funding works quite differently in Germany and Austria, with programmes and deadlines of their own. Funding in Germany, Funding in Austria.

Find the office and check the conditions
Usually the cantonal sports office or the cantonal association. There you find the minimum amount, deadlines, own contribution and the club documents required.
Get a quote
Our quote lists LED wall, installation, control unit and setup separately, so the fund office sees what the money goes on.
Draw up a funding plan
Own funds, sports fund, sponsors, municipality and foundations. A mix of several sources looks solid.
Submit and account properly
Meet the deadline, keep receipts and photos. The grant is usually paid after the final account; allow two to six months for processing.
