Every price online is in US dollars and written for American high schools. This guide answers the questions clubs ask about football scoreboard software (soccer scoreboard software, if you search from the US): what runs on an LED scoreboard, what it costs in CHF and EUR, and how the screen can pay for itself through sponsors.
How the signal gets from the laptop to the LED wall
The chain is the same at a village ground and in a stadium (the linked pages are in German, the software runs in English):
- Laptop or mini PC running the scoreboard software (Windows or macOS).
- HDMI cable to the LED controller. Over long distances, an HDMI extender or fibre link.
- LED controller or processor, for example a Novastar COEX KU20, which scales the picture to the exact pixel resolution of the wall.
- Receiving cards inside the cabinets and the LED panels themselves.

What the hardware really costs in Europe
This part is missing from every English cost guide. Our figures from Swiss installations, all-in with panels, controller, steel frame, cabling and commissioning:

We quote CHF and EUR as one range because the two currencies are close to parity (the Swiss National Bank listed 1 EUR at CHF 0.9366 on 25 August 2026); treat the figures as a guide value and ask for a quote in your currency. Pixel pitch and viewing distance
The pixel pitch (distance between LEDs in millimetres) drives the price more than anything else. For a football ground you rarely need finer than 6.67 mm: that pitch reads well from about 7 m and is optimal at 13 to 20 m, which covers a screen behind the goal or at the halfway line. Indoor halls with spectators close to the screen use 3.9 mm; large grounds with long sight lines use 8 or 10 mm. The distance tables are in pixel pitch explained.
How sponsor advertising pays for the screen
A screen is a cost. A screen with rotating sponsor slots is an asset. Static perimeter boards (3 x 0.75 m) at Swiss amateur clubs are typically listed at CHF 300 to 650 per season, median around CHF 400 to 450 (benchmark from nine published club price lists in German-speaking Switzerland, list prices as of August 2026, see our post on perimeter advertising versus LED scoreboard); a moving LED slot with the sponsor's logo next to the live score can be priced above that because it is seen every time someone checks the score.
Worked example (assumed figures to show the arithmetic, not a quote or a promise): 5 x 3 m wall at CHF 32,000 including a controller, and ten sponsors willing to pay roughly two to three times the price of a static board for a rotating LED slot.
- 10 sponsors at CHF 1,200 per season = CHF 12,000 per year
- Minus licence, power and a maintenance reserve of roughly CHF 1,500 per year
- Payback in about three seasons on these assumptions, faster with a Swisslos or municipal contribution, slower if you sell fewer slots or price them nearer the perimeter benchmark

Match day: network, operator and references
No Wi-Fi at the ground? What actually needs a network
Almost nothing needs the internet. The remote control needs a local network: laptop and phone in the same Wi-Fi, a cheap travel router or the phone's hotspot is enough. - Who runs it: one volunteer with a phone, or the speaker at the microphone with a Stream Deck.

- Goal animations and sound: triggered with the goal.
- Youth presets: 2 x 45, 2 x 40, 2 x 35, 2 x 30 minutes saved as match types.
- Streaming: the same layout feeds OBS or XSplit, so the stream shows the live score without a second person.

Any desktop software with a full-screen output. The picture leaves the laptop over HDMI, an LED controller such as a Novastar COEX unit scales it to the wall's resolution, and receiving cards light the panels. The software only needs to match the wall's pixel size.
How much does video scoreboard software cost?

Does scoreboard software work on a Mac?

Can I use football scoreboard software for handball, ice hockey or basketball?
